Short answer
Draw your dose with the insulin syringe (10 units = 0.1 mL), pinch a fold of skin on your belly or thigh, inject slowly, and put the needle straight into a sharps container.
Subcutaneous means under the skin. You'll use the insulin syringe with the needle attached.
- Wash your hands. Wipe the vial top and your injection site with an alcohol pad and let them dry.
- Draw your dose. Your syringe is marked in units: 10 units = 0.1 mL. So a 0.25 mL dose is 25 units, and 0.5 mL is 50 units.
- Tap out any air bubbles.
- Pinch a fold of skin on your belly or thigh and insert the needle.
- Inject slowly, then withdraw.
- Don't recap the needle. Put it straight into your sharps container.
- Use a different spot each time. See our site rotation guide.
